There are more than 9 million LPG vehicles in the world today, with over 130,000 in the UK. The vast majority of vehicles using LPG are dual fuel vehicles that can also use petrol; a simple dash mounted switch allows you to change between fuel types whenever you need to. So even if you can't find an LPG station near you, the car can run happily on petrol and you are still congestion charge exempt. The Green Car Company offers Smart's [and coming soon Mini's] ready converted, ready to view and ready to test drive.
A Smart can run 130 miles on £5 worth of LPG, is congestion charge free, costs only £35 per year for road tax, gets discount parking, is low on emissions, cheap to insure and fun and easy to drive...
There are currently two LPG systems for the Smart, a boot mounted LPG tank by BRC, or a combination petrol/LPG tank to replace the existing petrol tank. Both are 100% Congestion Charge exempt. Only post 2003, 698cc Smart fortwo's can be converted to LPG.
The Green Car Company buys only the best used Smart cars. These cars are fully inspected and then converted to LPG by industry specialists. All work is fully warranted. Cars can also be purchased and converted to order. GCC will help you arrange all the necessary paperwork to get the congestion charge exemption certificate.
New Smart ForTwo's can be purchased from GCC fully LPG converted for as little as £9,995 OTR. These cars are supplied new by a UK main dealer and are NOT imports. Warranties are the Smart standard [usually 3 years].
Smart ForFours are also available, fully converted to LPG from £7,995 for pre owned vehicles. The LPG conversion for the ForFour is only available through Prins AutoGas and is considerably more expensive than the Smart ForTwo BRC system.
"The Independent online" in their series on “Your planet and how you can save it” judged the LPG Smart car as the best available environmental vehicle, beating such vehicles as the Toyota Prius and G-Whiz EV.
What are the environmental benefits of the Smart LPG? - compared to similar small diesel/petrol cars, the Green Car Company Smart LPG particulate emissions are 90% lower and CO2 emissions are at least 20% lower at just 93g/km CO2 for the fortwo and 110g/km CO2 for the forfour.
Question: What is the fuel savings when driving a Smart LPG vs. a Petrol Smart?
Answer: The fuel savings per 5000 miles is approximately £250.00 based on urban driving, with the forecourt fuel prices of LPG at 36p/l vs. Petrol at 82.9p/l .
Question: What is the range of a Smart LPG?
Answer: The range of a Smart LPG fortwo is approximately 225 miles per tank of LPG depending on the type of driving you do.
Question: Is my LPG Smart 100% Congestion Charge Exempt and when do I get my certificate?
Answer: You will recieve an LPGA conversion certificate on delivery, which you send to TFL with a completed Alternative Fuel Vehicle Exemption form and a copy of your V5, plus £10 admininstration charge. TFL aim to process your application within 7-10 days of receipt. You will receive a letter from TFL notifying you of your exemption.
Question: Is there a noticeable loss of performance?

Question: Is LPG readily available? Where is my nearest filling station?
Answer: LPG widely available, with over 1400 filling stations in the UK.
OK, so how exactly does LPG work?
The latest conversions capable of adapting your car to run on LPG, are quite sophisticated and take advantage of the latest emission control technology fitted to modern petrol cars
All LPG conversions have a storage tank, usually in the form of a doughnut tank fitted in the spare wheel well or a cylinder tank fitted in the boot
LPG is fed through a pipe as a liquid, to the engine compartment and then transformed into gas by a vaporiser and metered into the inlet manifold. All modern conversions use the same basic principle using injectors fitted directly into the manifold. When LPG is being used, the petrol injectors are switched off
A switch is fitted usually on the dashboard. This switch lets you know how much LPG you are carrying and also allows you to switch over from LPG to petrol
An LPG conversion is the most up to date emission technology available , not only a cleaner solution, but a cheaper one too.
Autogas benefits both vehicle owners and the environment. It retails at around just 50% of the price of petrol or diesel reducing running costs and many LPG vehicles qualify for 100% discount of the London Congestion Charge. This financial benefit is accompanied by the environmental benefit of producing significantly less of the harmful emissions associated with traditional fuels.
